This week in my enterprise risk management course we’re looking at risk and innovation. Our guest this evening is Anson Fatland, UW Associate Vice Provost for Innovation Strategy and Venture at CoMotion, the university’s innovation and technology transfer program.
At the Information School, it’s “Quiet Week,” which has reduced significantly the number of messages from the iSchool, my colleagues, and the iSchool staff. It has not done much to reduce questions from students on their first paper, which is due at 11:59pm today. I am looking forward to reading the papers, the first instance in the quarter where I assign a grade. My amazing teaching assistant, Roshani Ravi, has been handling grading of the weekly risk review presentations and the small group reports.
I spent a couple of hours in my office on Faculty Row on Monday. There are not many of my colleagues in, and the main office seems similarly ghost-like. Who knew how important those hallway conversations were?
Early tomorrow morning, I’m part of a panel talking about “Operational Risk Management in Tough Financial Times.” I’m joined by Tom Fuhrman, blockchain and cyber consultant from VECTORmv, and Bob Marley, chief security officer at Black Kite.
My energy levels are back up, and I’m also keep an eye on whether or not Congress can actually get the two infrastructure bills done by October 31. More on that next week.
